Domestic abuse is when hurts, bullies or threatens their partner. They might be going out with them, living with them or married.
- Hit, kick, punch or push the other person
- Hurt them emotionally by making them feel bad about themselves, or stopping them doing things they want to do
- Hurt them financially by taking money away from them or not letting them work
- Hurt them sexually by touching them against their will
Adults sometimes try to hide domestic absuse, but if you are experiencing it, you probably see and hear what’s happening. You may see your mum crying, or injured. Or you may be caught up in a fight, or get hurt if the abuser turns on you.
Domestic abuse can upset your feelings – you may be scared, upset, angry, confused, depressed or guilty that you can’t stop it. Whatever you feel, it helps to talk to someone about what’s happening in your life.
